From Book to Cake: Amelia’s Very Hungry Caterpillar Birthday Bash
Little Ms. Amelia came in for her first birthday cake smash, and I couldn’t be more excited to share this session with you! Her theme was inspired by the timeless and whimsical world of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, one of my absolute favorite children’s books. It’s such a unique and classic theme that truly brings joy to any birthday celebration. It also took me right back to my own Olivia, who adored this book as a little one. I love that Amelia’s family chose something that was both fun and meaningful for her big day.
Amelia is baby number 4 for this beautiful family, and I’ve had the honor of photographing each of their babies through so many special milestones. It’s always a joy to watch these sweet little ones grow, and having the privilege of capturing Amelia’s first birthday was extra special.
For Amelia’s cake smash theme, we went with a playful mix of faux fruit and greenery to evoke the fun, whimsical spirit of the Very Hungry Caterpillar. It was the perfect combination of bright, vibrant colors that really brought the theme to life. Amelia had two outfit changes during the session—one of my favorite things to do for these themed shoots is to balance the outfits with the vibe of the session. For a busy, colorful theme like this, I recommend a more toned-down cake smash outfit so that the focus remains entirely on the baby.
We had an absolute blast during this session! Amelia was such a trooper and so full of joy as she dug into her cake, and it was such a heartwarming moment to witness. I just want to take another moment to thank this amazing family for trusting me with documenting their milestones throughout the years. It means the world to me to be part of their story, and I’ll always treasure these moments together.
